It’s international women’s week, and we thought we would take this opportunity to recognise all of the fantastic female staff within the company, and we sat down with a few of them. Despite being a traditionally male industry, Windhoist takes great pride in our gender diversity, and women play a pivotal role at every level and in every department of our organisation!

Although society has come along way in our pursuit of gender equality, there is still work to be done. Individually, we are all responsible for our own thoughts and actions, all day every day. We can actively choose to challenge stereotypes, fight bias, broaden perceptions, improve situations and give women the opportunities they need to make their mark on an industry and reach their true potential without placing arbitrary barriers in their way.

An equal world is an enabled world, and collectively, each one of us can help create a world without bias. Let’s all be #EachforEqual.

We’d like to give special mention to our amazing Shirley, our Senior Financial Assistant who has been with Windhoist since day one! In the last fifteen years, she has been with Windhoist every step of the way, helping the company grow exponentially. Since starting, she has seen our team grow from just a few employees to over a hundred, with projects spread across multiple continents as well as expanding into the offshore industry!

Thanks for all of your hard work and commitment Shirley - we couldn’t have done it without you!

Name: Lynn Obi

Position: Marketing Manager

Start Date: 2016

“If you want a career with good prospects that will make a sustainable difference to the world and the planet, renewable energy is the sector for you. I love that Windhoist is a dynamic, fast-paced business with huge amounts of opportunity. Being a woman in wind hasn’t disadvantaged me or presented any major obstacles. Windhoist is definitely an organization that supports gender equality.”

Name: Coleen Forde

Position: Head of HR

Start Date: 2014

“There is no such thing as a typical day! Supporting the business across all entities means my hours aren’t exactly fixed - my working day can start and end any time! In typical HR fashion, I see myself as a business partner and try to who contribute to all areas of the business in whichever way I think can move the company forward. From providing an HR generalist service, to sourcing offices, troubleshooting back office and site issues, my responsibilities are dynamic and varied – no two days are the same, which keeps things at Windhoist interesting!”

Thanks again to all of the fantastic women in our company helping us to remain industry leaders and expand both in size and the scope of our service, and thanks to Shirley, Miriam, Lynn, and Coleen for taking the time to speak to us about their time at Windhoist and the wind industry as a whole!
