We sat down with Emmet, the site manager at Midelt, Morocco, to learn some more about his career with Windhoist.
When did you start with Windhoist?
I started in April 2008 with Eddie Wilson on Greenknowes Windfarm in Scotland. I left the company in 2015 for two years and returned again in 2017.
Why did you want to work within the Wind Industry?
I am an Electrician by trade and was subcontracted into Windhoist to help out with the electrical works for a Nordex job in Thurso. After I completed that job I became very interested in the wind industry and took a chance and applied for a job with Windhoist.
Any nerves or reservations at the start?
Obviously it was a big step to take and it was the first time I would be working away and coming into a crew that were already working together for a while was quite daunting, but the crew immediately made me feel welcome and any nerves that I had quickly disappeared.
Where have you travelled with Windhoist?
I have had the good fortune of seeing a lot of the world with Windhoist, I have worked in France, Italy, Uk, Ireland, Denmark, Norway, South Africa and currently now in Morocco.
What do you enjoy most about your job?
I enjoy the hustle and bustle of managing a site. When the job is running well you get a great sense of satisfaction. I also enjoy working with a great group of technicians and the daily interaction with them.
Proudest achievement to date?
It has to be the completion of Hornsea 1 Pre Assembly, It was definitely the toughest job I was on but the whole crew really pulled together and looking back now it was fantastic to be part of the World’s largest offshore windfarm.
