Cape Bridgewater Windfarm Development

Windhoist have completed the erection of the first of 30 MM82 turbines on behalf of Repower Australia as part of the Cape Bridgewater windfarm development for Pacific Hydro Ltd.

The turbines are being erected on a coastal site near Melbourne and the undulating, sandy terrain presents many challenges for our cranes and erection teams. We decided not to opt for lattice boom cranes, readily available in the country, as the site was not suited to the layout required for this crane type. Instead, we shipped one of our Liebherr LTM 1500 (500te) cranes, owned and operated by our parent company McNallys Crane Hire, to Australia and the erection works are now underway.

We have supplemented our own crane/erection team with locally sourced personnel including our first female crane operator - Brodeen Graham, photographed whilst operating the 500te crane. The main photo shows the first rotor being installed by the erection team under the direction of our project manager Shane McGorry. Shane has successfully installed many Repower turbines on sites in the UK and this project marks a new beginning in, what is, an already successful partnership with Repower.
